Phil Spagnuolo

Client Relationship Manager

I started at Guardian back in 2017. At the time, I had no experience in the insurance industry, but came in through a referral, and haven’t looked back since.

I started in claims handling, then moved into personal lines broking, mainly home and motor, before stepping into the commercial space as an assistant broker. Over time, I progressed into client relationship management and now manage both my own portfolio and a team of five.

Along the way, I’ve completed my Diploma of Insurance Broking, achieved QPIB status, and became a Senior Associate with ANZIIF. I was proud to be a finalist for NIBA’s Broker of the Year in 2024 and have completed development programs like QBE Equip and the SOL Results Mentorship Programme. Guardian has always encouraged ongoing learning, and that support has made a big difference.

What I really value at Guardian is the career flexibility, strong team culture, and continuous learning mindset. The people here, both colleagues and leaders, have played a huge role in shaping who I am as a broker. Evan Jackson, in particular, has been an incredible mentor, providing guidance that’s helped me grow personally and professionally.

If I could give advice to someone considering this industry, I’d say jump in and learn the craft. Insurance is challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. The skills you gain open doors to so many career paths, and if I had my time again, I would’ve started even sooner.

Kaitlin Munn

Account Executive

I started at Guardian back in 2014 after doing a week of work experience. At the time, I had no experience in the insurance industry, I’d just finished school and was at a bit of a crossroads, unsure of what I wanted to do next. That week gave me a real insight into what life at Guardian was like, and I loved it. Luckily for me, a role as a claims assistant came up right after, and I was able to step into a full time position the very next week.

My first role in the claims department, gave me a great foundation and helped me build a general understanding of insurance while I completed my Tier 1 qualification. From there, I moved into personal lines, looking after Home, Motor, and Landlords Insurance. That role opened the door to a promotion, first as an assistant broker in the SME space, then in a few different areas across the business. Later, I stepped into my current role as an account executive, managing my own portfolio of clients.

Along the way, Guardian has supported me in completing further study, and I now hold a Diploma of Insurance Broking. One of the great things about working here is how much the company encourages and supports staff to keep learning and growing.

The people I work with are genuinely supportive, and we celebrate each other’s wins. The leadership is amazing, approachable, down-to-earth, and constantly inspiring the younger members of the team. There’s also plenty of room to grow, and promotions often come from within, which really motivates you to keep developing. Plus, the work itself is never boring, no two clients or days are ever the same.

I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentorship throughout my career here. Evan Jackson has played a huge part in my professional and personal growth, from masterclasses and client meetings to one-on-one development sessions. Returning to work after having children, I also found a lot of support from other mums in the office. That sense of community made the transition back to work so much easier and really reinforced that Guardian is a place where people care and lift each other up.
